HOW LONG

3 cycles.
Complete the breathing sequence at a comfortable pace.

MAKE IT PLAYFUL

Pretend the brief breath hold is a secret air-lock before a 5-4-3-2-1 rocket launch.

WHEN TO STOP

Stop if your child becomes dizzy, breathless, uncomfortable or distressed.

What to Notice

  • Sequence:
    Can your child follow each part of the activity?
  • Breathing:
    Can they return to a comfortable breath after the hold?
  • Comfort:
    Does the activity remain comfortable?
  • Response:
    Does your child remain comfortable throughout the activity?

What to Practise 

  • Following the sequence:
    Practise breathing in, breathing out, holding briefly, then breathing in again.
  • Breathing awareness:
    Notice each part of the breathing sequence.
  • Counting:
    Use the 5-4-3-2-1 countdown to guide the activity.
